Goldie

Goldie. Nugget. NuggieBear.
The dog you see in the header of this blog is a very special dog. While it's true all my dogs have a heartbreaking story that brought them here. Goldie's story is the most well known. I would have never met Goldie if Tropical Storm Katrina had weakened instead of gaining stregnth. When Huricane Katrina Hit New Orleans, the story of how Goldie came to live here with us began.

Five years ago Huricane Katrina destroyed Goldie's life in New Orleans. She was rescued by Ethan and his team and went to Best Friends to live. But only for a while. Because I saw her photo on the cover of the Best Friends Magazine and decided I would adopt her. After a few weeks of interviews and a flight to Kanab, Utah; I was able to adopt her and bring her home to live here in MD. Since then she has had to have allergy treatments and two knee (CCL) surgeries. She is over her allergies and both knees are 100% ....just ask the deer and squirrels that she chases every day. Out of the tragedy of Katrina came the pure unconditional love of Goldie. I will forever be greatful to Ethan, Troy and the whole team for rescuing Goldie and I will forever be greatful to Kristi L. and Pat, Goldie's Trainer, for having faith in me to handle this quirky dog, yes she had issues. I will also never forget Best Friends, because without their inspiration and guidance I would not have started RuffHaven, my rescue and sanctuary for old and special needs dogs. There really is no place on earth like Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
